OBJECTIVES
The Mura Project – Lake Capanã arises from the urgent need to protect the biodiversity of the Capanã Grande, Baetas, and Acará lake complex, the territory of the Mura people, traditional inhabitants of the Madeira River in southern Amazonas. In the face of growing threats from exploitation and deforestation, the project seeks Funai’s formal recognition and regularization of this territory. Furthermore, it aims to implement territorial management, political representation, and autonomy for the twenty Mura communities occupying the region.
GEOGRAPHICAL
SCOPE
The project operates in the following Indigenous Lands (TIs), located in the municipalities of Manicoré and Humaitá, in the southern part of the state of Amazonas:
• Lago Capanã Indigenous Land (demarcated)
• Ariramba Indigenous Land (demarcated)
• Lago Jauari Indigenous Land (demarcated)
• Médio Madeira’s Mura Indigenous Land (undergoing regularization)
